Inlays and Onlays in Doylestown, PA

Doylestown PA Dentist | inlays and onlays doylestown paAt Doylestown Dental Group, we focus on providing you with treatments that protect your oral health by preserving the integrity of your teeth. If you have damaged teeth, we always look for the most effective, conservative, and minimally invasive treatments for restoration.

Inlays and onlays are one such type of dental restoration because we only need to remove the compromised portion of your tooth to create an effective, durable repair. Similar to dental fillings, inlays and inlays are used to repair teeth that exhibit moderate damage. They offer the advantage of increased strength and longevity compared to white fillings.

We use gold or ceramic to make dental inlays and onlays, which we cement onto the treated tooth to provide a durable restoration. In most cases, we use ceramic, which enables us to create a restoration that is as cosmetic as possible.

Inlays vs. Onlays

The primary difference between inlays and onlays is the amount of coverage they provide. An inlay is more like a filling, but it is placed within the cusps of the tooth; onlays provide more coverage and extend over the cusp of your tooth. Both are referred to as indirect restorations because they are fabricated in a dental lab and then bonded to your tooth at our Doylestown dental office.

About the Procedure

The process for placing inlays and onlays usually requires two appointments. During the first visit, we will examine and prepare your tooth. We take impressions to create a model for the permanent restoration.

The model is sent to a top dental lab where your inlay or onlay is expertly prepared to our specifications. In most cases, we need to protect the damaged tooth with a temporary until you return to our office for placement of the final restoration.

In approximately three weeks, you will return for the final visit. We check the restoration for proper fit and alignment and then cement it to your tooth.

Building Strong Relationships

Our office is committed to making sure you receive the treatment you need in a warm and friendly environment. We are proud of the trust we have earned from our patients and the long-lasting relationships we have built over the years.

If you’re wondering if an inlay or onlay can benefit you and restore your oral health, please contact our dental office to arrange a consultation. We will be happy to discuss inlays and onlays as well our other options.
