What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Dental technology has come so far in the last couple decades that you may find it hard to keep up with all the changes! One area in particular that has benefitted from these advances is tooth replacement solutions.

In the past, there were good options for correcting the esthetics of a missing tooth. But it wasn’t until dental implants were introduced that we had an effective solution for a healthy replacement for the entire tooth, including the root.

A dental implant is a small titanium post that acts as an artificial tooth root. The implant is placed in your jaw and allowed to heal. During the process, the biocompatible implant forms a secure bond with the bone and tissue in your jaw. After healing is complete, the implant becomes a permanent part of your dental anatomy.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Because an implant is firmly rooted in your jaw, it forms a strong and durable base for the restoration to which it is attached. This improves the stability of any restoration, but we have had tremendous success when pairing implants with dentures.

We create a denture with attachments designed to snap onto implants placed in your jaw. If all your teeth are missing in an upper or lower arch, four implants are generally all that’s needed to provide stable support for a denture. Imagine – a denture that looks natural and stays in place!

But stability isn’t the only advantage of implant-supported dentures. Since the denture is held in place with implants, there’s no need for a plate that covers the roof of your mouth. This makes dentures less bulky, and also makes food taste better because your taste buds aren’t covered.
